Counseling This has been a very busy semester for Polaris Day Counseling! Several students have worked very hard and are eligible to return to their respective comprehensive sites the last week in January. We are all very proud and excited for these students and wish them all the best of luck on their road to success there! ROP Registration has been completed for 2nd semester class offerings. Classes officially begin the last week in January and conclude the end of May. Summer course information for ROP will be available in the Counseling Office the first week in June. This is a great opportunity for students age 15 1/2 and older to gain elective credit AND learn a skill for future job employment. Lisa Rockwell, the Counselor for both Polaris Day and for VISTA, has been conducting individual conferences for all students since September. During these conferences, students reviewed the graduation requirements and reviewed the necessity to achieve each school year so as to be able to complete the 230 credits needed for graduation in the four years available. Goal setting was definitely a part of this conference as information was presented on requirements to transfer to a comprehensive site vs. remaining in the Gilbert system. ROP information was also given as well as the work permit process and application. Miss Rockwell has been meeting with non-performing VISTA and Polaris Opportunity students and parents. She is presenting current academic information from the teachers as well as reviewing graduation requirements. These conferences will continue into Jan. and Feb. The Bridges Career Exploration computer program is available to all students in the Polaris Library. Three terminals are equipped with this program and Miss Rockwell encourages everyone to make it a point to stop in and check out this opportunity. Now is the time to be identifying personal interests that equate with certain work careers. This program holds a wealth of information and opporunity to express opinions and investigate career opportunities. Miss Rockwell is available to all students and parents. Please do not hesitate to contact her at 220-4004. |
